I joined the High River Otters in 1998 and have swam or coached swimming every year since including time with the Otters, Red Deer Catalina, University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, LASC, Spartans Aquatic Club, Lethbridge Orcas and High River Tigers. As a national level athlete (barely!) I have had the great pleasure of swimming with and against some of Canada’s best swimmers. As a coach working for a number of different clubs has exposed me to a lot of different coaching styles as well as a lot of different types of athletes from beginners to water polo to triathletes to lifesaving as well as a few eventual Olympians. Through all that summer club is still one of my favorite things in the entire world. So excited to be back with the Otters, the club that started this whole journey for me over 20 years ago!
Happy 60th to the Otters! Being a coach for the club I grew up swimming continues to be a highlight of my summer. Water is a pivotal part of my work, not just in coaching but with my job as a lifeguard and swim instructor for the Town of Okotoks.
I enjoy keeping my swimmers on their toes with odd accessories, being silly with them, and doing my best to keep them laughing and having fun with us. The added bonus is getting to see them grow as swimmers and people.
I joined the Otters in 2014 and discovered a favourite hobby. Swimming is something I continued to do through the 2023 swimming season. Having a strong background in swimming I was able to become a lifeguard in High School, and shortly after graduation spent a year in Australia where I was able to work at a pool for part of my stay. After coming home I started working at the Claresholm pool, chlorine is part of my DNA. I am looking forward to teaching new swimmers some of the great lessons I have learned from my coaches (Kris and Jenn included)
